Curious about running ads? There are
several different ad types and you can choose what works best for you. Ads can appear before or during your videos depending on its length. The ads can display while your content is playing and/or as a text or video companion right next to your content. As you begin, you may want to test the various ad types to determine which type work best with your content.

You may have noticed when watching YouTube videos that some ads can be skipped after a few seconds while others must be watched all the way through. These two options: skippable and non-skippable are available in our popular in-stream ad format. Skippable, or TrueView ads allow the user to go directly to your content after 5 seconds. You can also use Display ads which appear to the right of your video or Overlay ads which appear as a transparent overlay on the lower portion of your video.
As a general best practice, we recommend opting in to as many ad formats as you're comfortable with. If you are just getting started and your primary goal is building loyal, engaged viewership, you may want to initially forego choosing the non-skippable in-stream format. Skippable in-stream formats, as well as overlay and display ads, don't require a viewer to watch a full ad before accessing your videos.
The revenue you can make on YouTube ads is going to vary depending on the type of ads that you run on your videos. For example, TrueView ads are usually going to have a higher return or RPM (revenue per thousand) than a banner ad. It is up to you to decide what works best for your channel and for your audience
